About Me
I am an English into Spanish translator specialized in video game, web and software localization.
I also work as a movie, TV show and documentary subtitler.
Juan Ignacio Luque
Translator
My daily output is 2,000-2,500 words for translation and 4,000-4,500 word for reviewing. I also offer subtitling services for movies, TV shows and documentaries.
Do you have a big project that demands several translators and reviewers? No problem. I work with a team of top-notch colleagues, so you need only one stop to get the work done.
Do you need DTP services? If your project requires the work of a desktop publishing specialist, you don’t need to go any further.
Services & Tools
VIDEO GAME LOCALIZATION
I love translating, I love video games. Why not combine both? But video game localization is not all about translation. Sure, there are creative stages that are fun and awesome, but you also need to know how to deal with in-game tags, variables and, sometimes, lack of context. When you get everything right, it’s like seeing a beautiful “Achievement Unlocked!” sign.
SOFTWARE LOCALIZATION
When you have a great piece of software, you want everyone to use it. But a good product is not enough: the user has to understand it and feel comfortable with it. You need to localize it for everybody to feel attracted to it.
WEB LOCALIZATION
A nice web is not enough: the user has to understand it and feel comfortable with it. You need to localize it for everybody.
SUBTITLING
Movies, TV shows and series, documentaries… you name it, I will subtitle it so that people across Latin America can enjoy the product. Subtitling requires hard work and creativity to carry across a message to the target language without losing the flavor of the source. Puns, jokes and cultural references are only some of the difficulties one comes across when subtitling. But if you are good at it, they are what makes this type of work interesting and worthy of your effort.
TOOLS
Many clients have their own tool of choice, so it’s important to keep up-to-date with new Translation Environment Tools (aka TEnTs or CAT tools).
I use SDL Trados, MemoQ and Wordfast. I also know my way around other important programs, such as Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat and subtitling programs like Subtitle Workshop and Aegisub.
Testimonials
Juan is a talented translator, copy editor and proofreader, who has been a valuable member of our team since 2012. He consistently achieves good results and exceeds all expectations. We are happy to count him as an integral part of Valle Translations.
Working with Juan Ignacio is a pleasure. We’ve had the chance to collaborate with him several times and he has always answered with diligence and professionalism.
Juan Ignacio began working with us in 2013 and has proved to be a very reliable resource for English to Spanish technical and marketing translations. His work has received excellent feedback from both our reviewers and clients. He has a very good eye for detail, always adheres to project instructions and deadlines, and sometimes even finds errors in the English source text! He also really “goes the extra mile” for us, responding promptly to follow-up requests, providing detailed feedback on other translators’ work, and asking the appropriate questions. It is always a pleasure to hire Juan Ignacio for translation and website localization work.
I have worked with Juan on translation projects for a number of videogame-related projects. He has been very reliable, keeping me informed through each stage of the process and responding promptly to feedback. It was a pleasure working with him and I would not hesitate to recommend him for EN>ES (Latin America) localisations.
